Senior Backend Engineer - Global Bank
In SumUp's Global Bank tribe, you'll help build the infrastructure and core services that give merchants a digital bank account. As a Senior Backend Engineer, you'll evolve and maintain a high-throughput banking ecosystem, architecting a global banking platform with high availability, scalability and observability across multiple regions. You'll collaborate with colleagues from 32 nationalities across Cologne, Berlin, São Paulo, Sofia, London and Vilnius, working on business accounts, card payment and transfer products across Europe and LATAM.
Responsibilities
- ▹Collaborate with a global team to design and build a unified global banking platform, including high-level APIs for multiple regions and local implementations
- ▹Be part of the transformation team turning monolithic services into decoupled, highly scalable, region-agnostic global bank services
- ▹Design, implement and iteratively develop highly available backend services while ensuring high reliability of transfer systems
- ▹Maintain and improve core services on a modern cloud-native stack (AWS, K8s) with microservices in Golang, Kotlin, Java and Elixir
- ▹Improve test coverage and drive end-to-end delivery of changes, including testing, observability and monitoring
- ▹Shape and continuously improve the engineering culture through knowledge sharing, best practices and documentation
Requirements
- ▹Solid programming experience and interest in working in modern languages (Java, Kotlin, Golang, Elixir)
- ▹Advanced understanding of developing and maintaining distributed and event-driven systems
- ▹Solid experience with event streaming platforms and messaging brokers such as Kafka
- ▹Experience with modern cloud technologies like AWS and containerization tools such as Docker and Kubernetes
- ▹Comfort working with SQL and NoSQL databases
- ▹Experience with CI/CD tools like GitHub Actions or ArgoCD
- ▹A keen sense of ownership and dedication to clear, maintainable and testable code
