Senior Backend Engineer - Python and/or Go
A senior backend engineering role with HelloFresh in Warsaw, collaborating with HelloTech, a global technology division of over 1,000 people. The service provider joins an assigned squad with the flexibility to transition between teams and projects. Key technical domains include the Marketing Customer Profile squad, which builds AI-powered backend systems that automate campaign execution end-to-end across email, SMS and push, and the Conversions Tribe, which builds systems that power customized user journeys at scale. All domains involve highly available, event-driven distributed systems, and the role does not include people management.
Responsibilities
- ▹Maintain accountability for the architecture, design, development, deployment and operation of microservices under a full DevOps model
- ▹Build event-driven systems using messaging technologies such as Kafka, RabbitMQ or AWS SQS/SNS
- ▹Expose data via clean REST and gRPC interfaces
- ▹Work extensively with Docker, container orchestration via Kubernetes and CI/CD pipelines
- ▹Execute robust test suites from unit tests through to full end-to-end coverage
- ▹Collaborate within cross-functional agile teams including product leads, frontend engineers, designers and data teams
- ▹Provide technical guidance and participate in code and architecture reviews
- ▹Leverage modern AI tools such as Claude and Cursor as a standard part of engineering delivery
Requirements
- ▹Senior-level expertise in at least one core language: Go or Python
- ▹High proficiency in one stack with a willingness to expand into Go
- ▹Solid experience building, deploying and operating critical backend services in production
- ▹Comfort with distributed systems, messaging queues, containerization and modern deployment infrastructure
- ▹Strong software engineering instincts including TDD, BDD or DDD and the ability to make sensible technical trade-offs
- ▹Excellent communication skills for an international, multi-disciplinary environment
