Statistician - Data Analyst

The OECD Economics Department is launching a pooled recruitment campaign for Statisticians covering the full cycle of statistical activities from data collection and data management to analysis and dissemination. The positions may be open-ended or fixed-term.

Stack

Responsibilities

  • ▹Gather data from OECD member and non-member countries, developing efficient approaches to data collection, including digital data sources, automated collection and transfer solutions and AI-assisted methods where appropriate
  • ▹Convert national data into OECD formats, including data manipulation and analytical calculations, using efficient, reproducible and increasingly automated data-processing workflows
  • ▹Verify the accuracy, coherence, quality and internal consistency of data and metadata using validation procedures and automated quality checks
  • ▹Manage statistical databases so that data are well structured, documented, accessible and fit for analysis and dissemination
  • ▹Maintain the international comparability of data, including methodological changes, and research new data sources to expand database coverage
  • ▹Build and maintain contacts with statistical staff in national and international statistical agencies to improve data coverage, methodological information and data transfer
  • ▹Keep abreast of the work of the UN, Eurostat and the World Bank, and of developments in statistical standards and data technologies
  • ▹Use advanced statistical and analytical methods to analyse country-level or cross-country data and report the main findings
  • ▹Take part in drafting statistical and analytical publications and reports
  • ▹Develop clear, accurate and compelling charts to communicate findings to technical and non-technical audiences
  • ▹Contribute to improving questionnaire design, including opportunities for digital data collection
  • ▹Develop data solutions to support the Department's policy research and economic analysis: integrated datasets, analytical tools and reproducible data pipelines
  • ▹Develop and maintain clear documentation on work procedures and the methodology of national data
  • ▹Develop and adapt programs and procedures in statistical packages (e.g. R, Python or STATA)
  • ▹Develop, maintain and improve reproducible and automated workflows for data collection, processing, validation, analysis and dissemination
  • ▹Assist in preparing data files used in dissemination (e.g. OECD Data Explorer, CSV)
  • ▹Carry out statistical work in support of the directorate's wider analytical work

Requirements

  • ▹Advanced university degree or equivalent, preferably in statistics, economics, mathematics, engineering or a scientific field
  • ▹Good knowledge of statistical databases and information technology (including basic programming)
  • ▹Experience in the production and/or use of statistics, including documentation on sources, definitions, coverage, methodology, reliability and comparability, gained in an international or national statistical office
  • ▹Experience in statistical concepts and presenting statistical analysis to non-technical audiences
  • ▹Excellent command of Microsoft Office, especially Excel (including macros and pivot tables)
  • ▹Good knowledge of large statistical databases and practical experience with statistical software to manage them
  • ▹Fluency in English or French, with knowledge of the other and a commitment to reach a good working level
  • ▹Behaviours aligned to the six OECD core competencies
  • ▹Nationality of an OECD member country

Nice to have

  • ▹Experience analysing complex macro- and micro-level datasets and/or knowledge of areas such as trade, health, energy, education, environment, national accounts or transport
  • ▹Applied econometric techniques
  • ▹Good command of R, Python and STATA
  • ▹MatLab
  • ▹Other programming languages such as Eviews and VBA
  • ▹Experience using AI tools for research and programming
  • ▹Experience with private-sector databases (e.g. Thomson Reuters, Bloomberg, CEIC) and database design
  • ▹Knowledge of other languages

What we offer

  • ▹Monthly salary from 5,279 EUR, plus allowances based on eligibility, exempt from French income tax
