Graduate Software Engineer, Open Source and Linux, Canonical Ubuntu

Software Engineer • Entry-level • Remote • Full-time European Union EU/EMEA

Canonical is hiring graduate software engineers for teams working across the open source and Linux stack. The role is fully remote, covering languages like Python, Golang, Rust, C/C++, JavaScript and Bash, spanning everything from BIOS and kernel to cloud and Kubernetes.

Responsibilities

  • Contribute to engineering work on open source Ubuntu projects
  • Work across layers of the Linux system: BIOS, kernel, drivers, desktop apps
  • Perform packaging and maintenance work
  • Actively participate in the open source community
  • Collaborate with global, regional (EMEA/APAC/AMER) remote teams
  • Receive pair programming and mentoring

Requirements

  • Outstanding academic results
  • Programming skills in Python, Golang, Rust, C/C++, JavaScript or Bash
  • Commitment to the open source stack and philosophy
  • Suitability for independent, fully remote work

Nice to have

  • Experience with small devices (Raspberry Pi, RISC-V)
  • Interest in compilers, tooling, security or cryptography
