
Golang Engineering Manager, Commercial Systems
Canonical is hiring a Golang Engineering Manager for its Commercial Systems unit, which comprises six engineering teams building internal products central to Canonical's business. The manager is accountable for the design and development of an internal product, leads a team of Golang engineers, and continuously develops both their own skills and those of their reports. Candidate teams include Billing (turning metrics into billable amounts) and Livepatch (delivering live Linux kernel security patches). The role is remote in the EMEA region.
Responsibilities
- ▹Take accountability for the design and development of an internal product
- ▹Lead a team of software engineers working in Golang
- ▹Develop the skills and capabilities of direct reports
- ▹Seek improvements to established processes, designs and solutions
- ▹Build an understanding of business needs to deliver the most impact
Requirements
- ▹Exceptional academic track record from both high school and university
- ▹Undergraduate degree in a technical subject or a compelling alternative narrative
- ▹Track record of going above and beyond expectations to achieve outstanding results
- ▹Experience with software development in a high-level language (Golang, Python, Java, etc.)
- ▹Professional written and spoken English with excellent presentation skills
- ▹Result-oriented, with a personal drive to meet commitments
- ▹Ability to travel internationally twice a year for company events up to two weeks long
Nice to have
- ▹Performance engineering and SRE experience
- ▹Experience with accounting, sales, sales operations or other business roles
