Scala Backend Developer

Responsibilities

• ▹Design, develop and maintain sophisticated server-side applications using Scala and related technologies
• ▹Create robust and scalable APIs, ensure efficient data processing and implement complex business logic
• ▹Deliver high-performance backend solutions using Scala and Java, functional programming paradigms and RESTful API design
• ▹Support distributed systems, version control with Git, build tools such as Maven and SQL databases
• ▹Write comprehensive unit tests and work with distributed systems to ensure reliability and scalability of the software architecture
• ▹Perform requirements analysis, system architecture design and performance optimization of backend services
• ▹Define technical specifications, ensure data integrity and security, and proactively address system design weaknesses
• ▹Independently analyze and resolve complex problems
• ▹Participate in design reviews and support system integration and testing
• ▹Provide mentorship and leadership to junior team members

Requirements

• ▹Technical training, certification(s) or degree with 5+ years of relevant experience
• ▹10+ years of hands-on Java software development experience
• ▹5+ years of hands-on Scala development expertise (a must have)
• ▹Experience designing and developing RESTful APIs
• ▹Demonstrated skills with functional programming paradigms, distributed systems, version control with Git, Maven and SQL databases
• ▹Knowledge of cloud platforms (e.g. AWS, Azure or GCP) and containerization technologies such as OpenShift
• ▹Excellent written, oral and presentation communication skills
• ▹Ability to obtain a T4 Public Trust clearance
• ▹Must have lived in the United States at least three of the last five years

Nice to have

• ▹Experience working with the Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services (CMS)
• ▹Familiarity with front-end technologies such as Angular and/or React, and supporting full stack challenges
