System Performance Engineer, Staff

Qualcomm's System Performance Team is responsible for optimizing and validating performance of Snapdragon chipsets across Mobile, Compute, Automotive, and IoT business units. This role covers performance and power analysis of complex concurrent system use-cases and technical leadership of junior engineers.

Responsibilities

  • Enable, profile and analyze complex concurrent system use-cases in emulation and software environments (Android/Linux/Windows)
  • Define and document performance and power analysis plans across multiple workloads (CPU, GPU, AI/ML)
  • Identify performance optimization opportunities in SoC software and hardware architecture
  • Direct triage of complex performance issues to determine root cause and present results
  • Collaborate with cross-functional teams (product management, hardware, software) to implement optimal power, performance, and thermal solutions
  • Provide technical leadership, mentor and guide engineers across multiple programs
  • Prepare reports and recommendations to help drive business decisions
  • Define and develop automation for the team to operate more efficiently

Requirements

  • Master's degree in Computer Engineering (preferred)
  • 4+ years of practical post-silicon power and performance analysis experience with complex SoCs
  • 4+ years of experience interacting with senior leadership (Sr. Director, VP level and above)
  • Strong programming and scripting skills (Python, C/C++)
  • Understanding of memory hierarchy and system interconnects
  • Understanding of ARM SoC concepts and architecture specifications (SMMU, GIC, Coresight-PMU, bus interfaces)

Nice to have

  • Knowledge of ARM v8 and v9 specifications
  • Experience with Vulkan, OpenGL, DX12, or CUDA
  • Understanding of industry power/performance benchmarks and system dependencies
  • System power/performance analysis tools and techniques
  • Knowledge of SW power management stacks and scheduler behavior
