Senior Site Reliability Engineer, Wikimedia Enterprise

Stack

Responsibilities

• ▹Define, track, and improve SLOs, SLIs, and error budgets
• ▹Build and enhance observability systems (metrics, logs, distributed tracing)
• ▹Drive reliability engineering practices: capacity planning, load testing, chaos testing
• ▹Improve developer experience via self-service infrastructure and streamlined deployment
• ▹Partner with engineering teams to embed reliability practices early
• ▹Design and optimize CI/CD and GitOps workflows (GitLab, ArgoCD) with canary/blue-green deployments
• ▹Implement secure-by-default infrastructure (IAM, secrets management, encryption)
• ▹Continuously optimize infrastructure cost and efficiency using FinOps principles
• ▹Establish and track operational metrics (MTTR, MTTD, incident frequency)
• ▹Reduce operational toil through automation-first solutions

Requirements

• ▹Experience with Infrastructure as Code and automation tools (e.g., Terraform, Ansible), plus one programming language (Python, Go, etc.)
• ▹Experience designing, operating, and optimizing cloud systems (AWS, Azure, or GCP)
• ▹Experience building and maintaining CI/CD pipelines and GitOps workflows (GitLab, ArgoCD)
• ▹Experience with incident response, on-call practices, and leading postmortems
• ▹Strong understanding of SRE principles (SLOs, SLIs, error budgets) and observability (Prometheus, OpenTelemetry)
• ▹Strong collaboration and documentation skills in a distributed, cross-functional environment

Nice to have

• ▹Familiarity with Wikimedia or other open-source projects
