Staff Backend Engineer

Responsibilities

• ▹Own major areas of backend architecture, including APIs, distributed systems, data models, infrastructure, and core business logic
• ▹Use AI-assisted engineering tools (e.g. Cursor, Claude Code, Copilot, ChatGPT, Devin) daily to accelerate development, debugging, testing, documentation, and operational efficiency
• ▹Identify opportunities to integrate AI into internal engineering systems and customer-facing platform capabilities
• ▹Design, build, test, deploy, and iterate on production systems end-to-end with a focus on reliability, scalability, and maintainability
• ▹Architect systems capable of supporting increasing scale, complexity, and evolving customer workflows
• ▹Define and implement modern testing, observability, and operational practices
• ▹Build scalable abstractions, internal frameworks, and platform capabilities that enable faster product development
• ▹Drive technical direction and long-term architectural decisions around performance, security, scalability, and platform evolution
• ▹Mentor engineers across the organization, sharing best practices

Requirements

• ▹8+ years of backend or full-stack engineering experience, ideally in SaaS or high-scale distributed systems environments
• ▹Proven experience designing, scaling, and operating complex backend systems from early-stage growth through maturity
• ▹Deep expertise in distributed systems, APIs, data modeling, infrastructure, and backend architecture patterns
• ▹Strong proficiency with modern AI engineering workflows and tooling, actively used
• ▹Strong execution mindset, balancing rapid iteration against long-term reliability
• ▹Experience building secure, observable, fault-tolerant systems in production
• ▹Collaborative and pragmatic approach across engineering, product, infrastructure, and data teams
