Senior Software Engineer, Backend

Backend Developer • Remote • Vollzeit • 📍 Remote - Canada

As part of Common Room's backend team, you'll build APIs and systems that other engineers and the product rely on, keeping the platform efficient, scalable, and reliable.

Responsibilities

  • Build APIs that other engineers use to solve customer problems in the product
  • Ensure systems are efficient, scalable, and reliable
  • Keep Common Room's core internal capabilities, infrastructure, and systems ahead of customer and team needs
  • Participate in important company-building initiatives at a fast-growing startup
  • Collaborate effectively with other experienced engineers, including application/front-end engineers

Requirements

  • 6+ years of experience
  • Operate independently while proactively seeking help when needed
  • Own large projects primarily on the backend domain
  • Good judgement on tradeoffs and tools, preferring supported, stable technologies over trendy ones
  • Use customer problems as input for simple, elegant system design
  • Consider observability, SLA, and scalability while avoiding premature optimization
  • Comfortable with AWS, Postgres, and Node.js
  • Build sustainably and manage your own time and priorities
