Job Description As an Astera Labs Product Application Engineer, you will provide technical support to customers to help resolve design challenges, create collateral for existing and new products, and share feedback with internal teams to help improve products and processes. This role offers the opportunity to work closely with customers and also spend time in the lab supporting bring-up, validation, and debug activities for leading-edge semiconductor products. Astera Labs is seeking a Product Applications Engineer in Shanghai, China with 5+ years of experience supporting the development and design-in of semiconductor products, ideally with exposure to PCIe/CXL technologies. This role is well suited for someone with a strong technical foundation, hands-on debug experience, and a customer-focused mindset who is looking to continue growing in a fast-paced environment. Basic Qualifications Strong academic and technical background in electrical engineering Bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering required; Master’s degree preferred 5+ years of experience supporting complex SoC or silicon products with high-speed interfaces Customer-focused mindset with a proactive, open-minded, and problem-solving approach Required Experience Working knowledge of PCIe architecture, standards, and debug, with recent experience in PCIe 5.0; exposure to PCIe 6.0 or CXL is a plus Experience with silicon or system bring-up and debug in customer or lab environments Ability to support issue resolution by working with cross-functional internal teams and communicating clearly with customers, FAEs, and sales teams Hands-on experience with lab equipment such as protocol analyzers, exercisers, high-speed oscilloscopes, or BERTs Comfort working with software and firmware associated with semiconductor products, including exposure to C-language firmware development and scripting in Python or similar languages Preferred Experience Exposure to triaging customer-reported issues across multiple layers such as silicon, firmware, board design, and system environment Familiarity with common data center BMC implementations and BIOS configuration Experience supporting PCIe or Ethernet switch or retimer products Exposure to PCIe compliance testing methodology and troubleshooting Understanding of data center systems such as servers, JBOGs/JBODs, networking switches, routers, and interconnects Key Responsibilities Support customers in resolving technical design and integration challenges Assist with silicon and system bring-up, validation, and debug activities Develop customer-facing and internal technical collateral for products and solutions Partner with internal engineering, sales, and field teams to drive issue resolution Provide product and process feedback based on customer and lab learnings Contribute to continuous improvement of application engineering workflows and support practices Why Join Astera Labs This is an excellent opportunity for an engineer with a strong early-to-mid career foundation who wants to deepen their expertise in high-speed semiconductor products, customer-facing engineering, and lab-based debug.
