Machine Learning Engineer

Calendly is hiring a Machine Learning Engineer for its Data Science & Machine Learning team to deliver business value across the full ML lifecycle, from problem discovery through model deployment and monitoring. You will build and operate ML-powered features used by internal and external customers, reporting to the head of Data Science & Machine Learning. The role is hands-on and collaborative, partnering with product, design, marketing, customer success, and engineering. The base salary range is $168,785–$245,434 depending on geographic tier.

Responsibilities

  • Own ML-powered features from design through deployment, scoping work and defining success metrics with product, design, and engineering.
  • Build and share domain knowledge, documenting learnings and answering domain-specific questions for your product area.
  • Prioritize work independently, balancing feature development, quality, and maintenance, and communicate tradeoffs clearly.
  • Proactively support teammates through pairing, code review, and collaboration.
  • Understand and troubleshoot deployment pipelines (build, test, release) for ML services and data pipelines.
  • Use monitoring and observability tools to triage alerts and incidents, and participate in the on-call rotation and incident response.
  • Serve as subject matter expert for the features and services you own, including their data contracts, SLAs, and dependencies.
  • Be a frequent user and champion of AI tools across the company.

Requirements

  • 4+ years of industry experience in applied Machine Learning or closely related fields (or equivalent), with a track record of shipping and operating ML models in production.
  • Demonstrated ability across the full ML lifecycle: EDA, feature engineering, visualization, model experimentation, training, validation, serving, monitoring, and retraining.
  • Experience developing statistical and ML models for revenue forecasting, churn analysis, personalization/recommendation, anomaly detection, or NLP.
  • Hands-on experience deploying ML models on a managed service (e.g., Vertex AI or SageMaker) for high-traffic, low-latency, large-data applications.
  • Understanding of foundation models and the open-source ecosystem, including fine-tuning and prompt engineering for real product use cases.
  • Strong programming (Python/Scala/Java/SQL) and data engineering skills.
  • Proficiency with ML frameworks (Keras, TensorFlow, PyTorch) and ETL/ML workflow tools (Apache Spark, Beam, Airflow, Vertex AI).
  • Experience with time series data; working knowledge of semantic search and embeddings.
  • Authorized to work lawfully in the United States; Calendly does not offer immigration sponsorship.
