Engineering Manager, Tax Platform

Backend Developer • On-site • Full-time • 📍 San Francisco

Stripe's Tax Engineering organization is hiring an Engineering Manager for the Tax Platform team to lead engineers and product managers driving growth, solving user problems, and delivering operational excellence. Full-time (40 hrs/week), 100% telecommuting role with multiple positions available.

Responsibilities

  • Work with a team of talented engineers and product managers to drive growth, solve user problems, and deliver operational excellence
  • Collaborate with stakeholders across disciplines, time zones, and the company to achieve the best outcomes for users
  • Build the plans, rhythm, and support for the team to deliver its best work
  • Contribute to the broader Tax Engineering organization through technical leadership, process and tooling improvements
  • Lead, coach, retain, and recruit engineers on the team
  • Contribute to engineering-wide initiatives as a member of Stripe's engineering management team

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree (or foreign equivalent) in Computer Science, Software Engineering, or a related field, plus 10 years of software engineering experience, at least 5 of which post-bachelor's progressive experience
  • 5 years managing, building, and leading engineering teams that deliver software products
  • Applying hands-on technical expertise at scale to guide architecture and technical strategy in collaboration with staff engineers
  • Designing, delivering, and operating business-critical services at scale
  • Experience with user-facing products, front-end and back-end services, scaling database systems, and API design on a team of 4-8 engineers
  • Designing and building services in monolithic and multi-service architectures
  • DevOps and operational ownership, from standing up observability through managing operational rigor and on-call health
