Backend Engineer - NorthAm Risk

Stack

Responsibilities

• ▹Real-time risk assessment using machine learning on every use of the quote calculator
• ▹Own the risk infrastructure for Instant ACH
• ▹Daily collaboration with software engineers, data analysts and data scientists to design new rules and refine ML models
• ▹Expand risk coverage in the US and Canada, including Sanctions and AML (Anti-Money Laundering)

Requirements

• ▹4+ years of experience with Java, Kotlin or other JVM-based languages, with deep knowledge of the Spring framework
• ▹Ability to design technical solutions optimizing for both throughput and speed (p99 end-to-end latency under 1 second)
• ▹Deep understanding of JDBC, database internals and query optimisation
• ▹Hands-on experience with Kafka, Kafka Streams or Apache Flink for real-time event processing
• ▹Experience with CI/CD pipelines and designing scalable, resilient distributed systems

Nice to have

• ▹Familiarity with machine learning basics: data pipelines, feature engineering, precision/recall
• ▹Experience with OLAP databases or data lakes (e.g. Apache Iceberg) with Kafka ingestion
