As part of Observability Engineering team you will be architecting and engineering mission-critical observability platform that allow our engineers, business and product teams to scale across numerous globally distributed environments. You will be part of strategic change in tools and process by keeping up with the latest industry research and emerging technologies to ensure we are appropriately leveraging new techniques and capabilities.Consistently question assumptions, challenge the status quo, and strive for improvement. Champion data governance adoption and ensure the new modern architecture is designed with scalability and longevity in mind.  What You’ll Do? You will design, build, and evolve the telemetry platform and instrumentation standards that enable reliable operations across Box’s globally distributed services. You will partner with service teams to implement effective observability across logs, metrics, traces, alerts, and SLOs. Ensuring telemetry is actionable, consistently contextualized, and tied to clear service ownership. You will make sound engineering tradeoffs around telemetry cardinality, sampling, retention, and cost to deliver scalable, high-signal observability. You will help define and promote OpenTelemetry-based instrumentation practices; equivalent distributed tracing and instrumentation experience is also valuable. You will improve observability as a developer and maintainer of systems and frameworks, helping teams reason about the health, performance, and reliability of their services. You will participate in our on-call rotation and help investigate, triage, and resolve production issues. Who You Are? We are an AI-first company. This means you approach your work with a growth mindset and find ways to leverage AI to make faster, smarter decisions and increase your impact at Box You have 4+ years of experience using one of a higher level languages (Go, Rust, Python, Java, Scala, Javascript, Ruby, or PHP). You have experience with Infrastructure/configuration languages (all of): Terraform/HCL, Helm/YAML. You have experience with service observability best practices and tools, ideally OpenTelemetry and Prometheus , or comparable telemetry, tracing, and instrumentation platforms. You have hands-on experience with modern cloud technologies like GCP, AWS, or/and Kubernetes. You are a developer at heart with a passion to solve hard problems using innovative and data-driven solutions. You have experience in configuration and maintenance of applications such as web servers, load balancers, databases, storage systems, orchestration and/or observability platforms. You have experience in supporting critical production services. You act like an owner and strive to do work you're proud of, both technically and in your team interactions.
