Staff Data Engineer

Headway's Data Engineering team is looking for a Staff Data Engineer to act as technical leader, architect, and mentor, defining the future state of the data infrastructure and ensuring data is trustworthy for every critical decision and product feature.

Responsibilities

  • Set technical direction and architecture for the entire data platform
  • Establish organization-wide data standards
  • Lead the design of highly scalable and optimized data models
  • Lead complex, multi-functional initiatives focused on data quality governance and pipeline maturity
  • Influence technology choices and mentor other engineers
  • Act as the primary technical interface between the Data Engineering team and senior stakeholders

Requirements

  • 9+ years of experience in data engineering, with a proven track record of architecting and shipping progressively more complex, large-scale data products
  • Expert-level proficiency in the modern data stack, including Snowflake, dbt, Apache Airflow, and Python, capable of defining best practices and architectural patterns
  • Deep mastery of advanced data modeling techniques and their application in production systems to achieve high performance
  • Proven ability to define the technical roadmap for the entire data platform, influencing architectural decisions and technical debt management across multiple teams
  • Strong track record of mentoring, coaching, and elevating the technical skills and engineering maturity of other data engineers

  • 2+ years of experience in a marketplace or two-sided platform
