National Security Lead, State and Local Government, Global Affairs

Responsibilities

• ▹Build and sustain relationships with state and major metropolitan homeland security advisors, emergency management directors, CISOs, election security, and law enforcement leaders
• ▹Develop and execute a policy engagement strategy on state and local risks from advanced AI (cyberattacks, critical infrastructure, election interference, biological threats)
• ▹Represent OpenAI in engagements with governors' and mayors' offices, state and municipal agencies, and policy organizations
• ▹Identify opportunities for beneficial state and local uses of AI, including cyber defense and disaster preparedness
• ▹Draft policy briefs, strategy memos, and stakeholder materials
• ▹Coordinate closely with OpenAI's State and Local Government team and internal partners (legal, security, communications)
• ▹Track state and local policy developments affecting the responsible deployment of AI
• ▹Travel regularly throughout the United States to engage with state officials and stakeholder communities

Requirements

• ▹10+ years of relevant experience in homeland security, emergency management, cybersecurity, critical infrastructure protection, election security, or public safety policy
• ▹Demonstrated credibility with state and local government leaders and relevant professional associations
• ▹Familiarity with AI-related security challenges, including cyber threats, election security, critical infrastructure, and biosecurity
• ▹Excellent communication, policy writing, and stakeholder engagement skills
• ▹Strong strategic instincts and the ability to deliver results in a rapidly evolving environment

Nice to have

• ▹Experience at DHS or in a senior state or major metropolitan homeland security, cyber, or emergency management role
