OpenAI's Applied Product team is looking for a Data Scientist to help build a data-driven product development culture for consumer and enterprise products used by millions worldwide, based in San Francisco or Seattle.
Stack
Responsibilities
- ▹Partner closely with the product development team to identify ways to improve the product and drive growth
- ▹Define and interpret A/B tests that answer key questions about the impact of model and UX changes
- ▹Define, track, and operationalize feature-, product-, and company-level metrics
- ▹Build and maintain dashboards and reports that let the team and company answer product questions in a self-serve way
Requirements
- ▹5+ years of experience in a quantitative role, navigating highly ambiguous environments (e.g. as an early data scientist or product analyst at a hyper-growth product company or research organization)
- ▹Track record of proposing, designing, and running rigorous experiments with clear insights and recommendations, using SQL and Python
- ▹Experience defining, implementing, and operationalizing new feature- and product-level metrics from scratch
- ▹Excellent communication skills, able to work with product managers, engineers, and executives alike
- ▹Strategic insight that goes beyond statistical significance testing
Nice to have
- ▹Strong programming background, with the ability to run simulations and prototype variants
- ▹Experience validating quantitative insights with qualitative methods (e.g. surveys, UXR)
- ▹Prior experience with NLP, large language models, or generative AI
Soft skills
Strategic thinking that goes beyond pure statistical analysisStrong stakeholder communication across technical and executive audiences
