Data Scientist

Data Engineer • Remote • Full-time • 📍 San Francisco

Middesk is looking for a hands-on Data Scientist to help build the foundation for its fraud and risk-aware systems, applying practical techniques to messy, real-world data. Hybrid work model with an expectation of 2 days per week in the SF/NYC office.

Stack

Responsibilities

  • Design and ship production systems that detect and prevent fraud across KYB, trust & safety, and compliance workflows
  • Work with messy, real-world data: extreme class imbalance, sparse signals, and evolving adversarial behavior
  • Apply graph-based approaches and entity resolution techniques to uncover hidden connections and improve risk detection
  • Improve signal and labeling using heuristics, weak supervision, and modern AI tools, including LLMs where appropriate
  • Partner with engineering to build and evolve systems for feature generation, model training, and production deployment

Requirements

  • 5+ years of experience in fraud, risk, or trust & safety, working on real-world fraud or abuse problems
  • Experience building and shipping production systems that power external-facing products
  • Strong foundation in applied ML or data systems, comfortable with imbalanced data, sparse signals, and changing patterns
  • Experience with graph or relational data approaches: knowledge graphs, network analysis, or entity linking
  • Hands-on and pragmatic, focusing on impact over perfection
