Data Center Facility Telemetry & Controls Engineer

Data Engineer • Remote • Full-time • 📍 Remote

Responsible for the design, deployment, integration, and ongoing operation of Building Management Systems (BMS), DCIM platforms, and facility telemetry pipelines across Lambda's AI cloud data centers, ensuring safe, real-time monitoring of high-density GPU deployments (136-380 kW per rack).

Responsibilities

  • Architect and manage BMS integration across colocation and Lambda-owned facilities (chillers, CRAHs, CDUs, cooling towers, UPS systems, PDUs)
  • Define standards for BMS point lists, naming conventions, and integration protocols (BACnet, Modbus, SNMP, OPC-UA, REST APIs)
  • Oversee commissioning and acceptance testing of new BMS deployments and CDU/TCS loop integrations
  • Collaborate with colocation partners (e.g. Equinix, Digital Realty) to ensure telemetry data flows into Lambda's monitoring stack
  • Own the DCIM platform strategy and roadmap, covering asset management and capacity planning
  • Develop real-time dashboards for PUE, thermal performance, and cooling system efficiency
  • Build telemetry pipelines (Prometheus, Grafana, InfluxDB) ingesting data from BMS, PDUs, CDUs, and network devices
  • Define alarm thresholds and escalation workflows for critical facility events
  • Develop control strategies for liquid cooling (TCS) systems at 220-380 kW per rack
  • Lead incident response and root cause analysis for facility system failures

Requirements

  • 7+ years in data center infrastructure engineering, with 4+ years focused on BMS, DCIM, or controls systems in hyperscale, colocation, or AI/HPC environments
  • Hands-on experience designing and integrating BMS for mission-critical systems (UPS, PDU, CRAH/CRAC, chiller plant, liquid cooling)
  • Strong knowledge of industrial control protocols: BACnet IP/MS-TP, Modbus TCP/RTU, SNMP, DNP3, API-based integrations
  • Demonstrated experience with DCIM platforms (Nlyte, Sunbird, Vertiv TRELLIS, or equivalent)
  • Experience with real-time telemetry stacks (Prometheus, InfluxDB, Grafana)
  • Strong understanding of data center power and cooling systems, PUE optimization, and redundancy architectures (2N, N+1)

Nice to have

  • Direct experience with liquid cooling (DLC) systems and CDU controls integration for high-density AI GPU deployments
  • Familiarity with OCP (Open Compute Project) hardware and telemetry standards
  • Experience with major colocation providers (Equinix, Digital Realty, CyrusOne)
  • Exposure to modular or edge data center deployments
  • Background in scripting and automation (Python, Ansible, Terraform)
  • Experience operating data centers internationally, including Asia-Pacific markets
  • Relevant certifications: CDCP, CDCE, ETA Data Center Specialist

Soft skills
