Software Engineer, Web Infrastructure

Backend Developer • Remote • Full-time • 📍 San Francisco

The Web Infrastructure team is looking for a core engineer to improve Notion's web client performance and development velocity.

Stack

Responsibilities

  • Improve the page-loading experience by modularizing the client codebase, lazy loading, and caching relevant assets
  • Improve interaction latency by making components and other parts of the codebase more lightweight and efficient
  • Define best practices and build developer tooling so web engineers can develop product features with confidence

Requirements

  • Around 8-10+ years of experience building and optimizing large web applications in React or similar frameworks
  • Proven track record improving real-user performance metrics at scale, from page load to post-load interactivity
  • Strength in modern bundling and build tooling such as Webpack, plus performance profiling
  • Strong systems thinking and the ability to design paved-road abstractions, guardrails, and tooling for many teams
  • Excellent collaboration and communication across platform and product teams, with a bias toward iterative, measurable impact

Nice to have

  • Experience modularizing large monorepos, reducing cyclic dependencies, and improving build times
  • Familiarity with design systems and component performance, accessibility, and ergonomics
