Software Engineer – Platform & Software Architecture (IVDR)

Software Architect • On-site • Full-time • 📍 Hannover

Unify and professionalize the software architecture of a dementia-research technology platform to make it certifiable under IVDR, working closely with a team of physicists, data scientists and users.

Responsibilities

  • Analyze existing software components (firmware, UI, data pipelines, evaluation tools) and develop a target architecture
  • Prioritize 'refactor vs. rewrite' and define a realistic migration strategy
  • Standardize build/run environments, dependencies, version control and release processes
  • Define coding standards, test strategy, review process and CI/CD, and consolidate tools and libraries
  • Build coherent software documentation and traceability (requirements → design → implementation → tests) for IVDR compliance
  • Own project management: plan and steer work packages, milestones and technical decisions

Requirements

  • Completed degree in computer science or a closely related field
  • Relevant professional experience in software development (architecture, implementation, testing)
  • Project management experience (planning, prioritization, stakeholder management, delivery responsibility)
  • Strong ability to communicate complex technical content clearly
  • Team-oriented working style, enjoyment of interdisciplinary collaboration
  • Excellent programming skills in C++, C#, Rust, Python and Julia, plus experience in scientific software development (full-stack, UI, SQL/NoSQL databases)

Nice to have

  • Experience in regulated environments (medical devices/IVD/pharma)
  • Knowledge of regulated software lifecycle standards (e.g. IEC 62304), quality management (ISO 13485), risk management (ISO 14971)
  • Embedded/firmware experience (C/C++/RTOS, interfaces, sensors)
  • Experience with Python data pipelines (CuPy/NumPy/Pandas)
  • UI experience (Qt, web frontends or desktop apps)
  • DevOps experience: CI/CD, containers (Docker), release automation, observability
  • Basic cybersecurity knowledge (authentication, secure updates)
