Technical Product Manager

Backend Developer • Lead • Vor Ort • Vollzeit • 📍 Home based - EMEA

This is a general application track for product management positions at Canonical, whose product managers are technologists passionate about delivering products that shape market demands while elevating open source software everywhere. You will set a clear vision, prioritize work effectively, and ensure the team delivers high-quality products that meet business and user needs, overseeing the entire product lifecycle from conception to delivery. During the interview process Canonical will identify specific software products that fit your interests, with open roles across domains including Ubuntu Platform, Ubuntu Pro, AI/ML and MLOps, IoT, Cloud, Telco, Finance, Automotive and Application Management. These roles are home-based in the EMEA time zone.

Responsibilities

  • Lead the product development lifecycle, reviewing priorities and goals for your product
  • Collaborate with cross-functional teams such as engineering, design, marketing and sales
  • Address common challenges across projects, align on priorities and keep business execution on track
  • Conduct market research, analyse industry trends and gather customer feedback to identify opportunities
  • Communicate your product vision, status updates and key decisions to ensure alignment
  • Conduct usability testing, analyse user feedback and iterate on the product
  • Develop go-to-market strategies, create product documentation and provide training with marketing, sales and support
  • Contribute to the sales team's success in winning new opportunities and participate in customer meetings
  • Oversee the work of a product line, ensuring consistency in strategy and execution

Requirements

  • Exceptional academic results at high school and university
  • Understanding of Linux and the wider open source software community
  • Understanding of computer architecture, application development, datacenters, cloud or devices
  • Passion to write about technologies and the tech landscape
  • A strong work ethic with personal interests aligned with the open source movement
  • Curiosity and the habit of continuous learning
  • A strong sense of ownership and problem-solving ability
  • Outstanding communication skills in English, both verbal and written
  • For more senior positions, product management experience in the software industry
  • Willingness to travel internationally up to 4 times a year for company events up to two weeks long

Nice to have

  • Familiarity with a particular vertical such as Telco, Finance, Industrial or Automotive
  • Familiarity with the technology ecosystem including silicon, IHV, ISV, ODM/OEMs and cloud service providers
  • Familiarity with cloud native technologies such as Kubernetes, Docker containers and Snaps
  • Familiarity with embedded and connected device technology and ecosystems
  • Familiarity with networking technologies such as ethernet, IPv4/IPv6, routing, firewalling, OVN/OVS, VPNs, SR-IOV and infiniband
  • Familiarity with telco networking such as RAN, Core and CPE
  • Experience leading distributed teams across different time zones
