Responsibilities

• ▹Help Honeycomb scale backend systems to support the highest-volume customers
• ▹Build organizational trust through transparent communication and direct, kind feedback
• ▹Work with other backend teams to get the most out of the infrastructure
• ▹Be trained, become, and then train others as an Incident Commander
• ▹Help develop a healthy cross-Atlantic engineering culture
• ▹Participate in the on-call rotation as the EU side of a follow-the-sun rotation
• ▹Help the organization navigate tradeoffs between reliability and other goals
• ▹Optional: act as an external ambassador through blog posts and conference talks with DevRel support

Requirements

• ▹Strong experience in AWS and Kubernetes
• ▹Experience performing cost analysis and reduction
• ▹Solid Helm, Terraform, and CI/CD experience
• ▹Project management skills
• ▹Software engineering experience
• ▹Experience with Kafka or another high-volume distributed system
• ▹Excellent written and spoken communication, tailored to the audience
• ▹Curiosity about how people and systems work
• ▹Familiarity with observability concepts: SLOs, instrumentation
• ▹Comfort operating in ambiguity

Nice to have

• ▹Golang experience
• ▹Performance engineering experience
• ▹Willingness to act as an external ambassador via blog posts and conference talks
