Sustaining Operations Engineer

Canonical is hiring a Sustaining Operations Engineer to resolve critical customer issues across the full Linux-based infrastructure stack (bare metal, virtualization, containerization, OpenStack, Kubernetes). The role is a deep-debugging, final-escalation-point position.

Responsibilities

  • ▹Resolve complex customer problems in Ubuntu, OpenStack, Ceph, Kubernetes
  • ▹Work closely with field, support, and product engineering teams
  • ▹Participate in upstream communities
  • ▹Debug issues, propose fixes, collaborate on patches with engineers
  • ▹Serve as final escalation point providing subject matter expertise

Requirements

  • ▹Professional experience troubleshooting complex Linux issues
  • ▹Background in Computer Science or STEM
  • ▹Strong expertise in Linux, LXD, OpenStack, Ceph, or Kubernetes
  • ▹Strong debugging experience in Python, Go, C, or C++ on Linux
  • ▹Use of gdb, pdb, tcpdump and similar tools
  • ▹Familiarity with git source control

Nice to have

  • ▹Ubuntu Linux kernel/userspace, Postgresql, Mongo, Debian packaging
  • ▹Distributed systems knowledge
