Senior Backend Engineer (Ruby, Kotlin) – Voyager Team

Stack

Responsibilities

• ▹Maintain and be the expert on the core Ruby on Rails monolith powering the Bridge platform
• ▹Fix critical issues and ensure new features (Kotlin or Ruby) integrate seamlessly into the ecosystem
• ▹Work across a complex Ruby on Rails web application (~60% of time)
• ▹Develop Java or Kotlin Spring Boot-based REST APIs (~40% of time)
• ▹Work with PostgreSQL databases and cloud services (AWS Aurora RDS, Apache Pulsar messaging, Debezium-based ETL pipelines, AWS Neptune graph databases, AWS OpenSearch)
• ▹Contribute to CI/CD (GitHub Actions, Spinnaker) and monitoring (DataDog)
• ▹Occasionally contribute to frontend work in React and TypeScript
• ▹Use Terraform for infrastructure

Requirements

• ▹'No Fear' attitude — comfortable navigating undocumented, complex codebases and production crises
• ▹High abstract and conceptual thinking to navigate a massive, undocumented monolith
• ▹Polyglot background with broad experience across multiple tech stacks
• ▹Direct communication style, comfortable with honest, constructive technical debate
• ▹Experience with Ruby on Rails
• ▹Experience with Java or Kotlin and Spring Boot
• ▹PostgreSQL database knowledge
