Software Engineer, Deployment Infrastructure
CI/CD is the beating heart of Vercel, with millions of builds flowing through its systems every day. As a Senior Infrastructure Engineer on the CI/CD team, you will own the systems that power these builds at scale, responsible for the design, reliability, and evolution of the platform itself. The role blends product thinking with deep systems ownership, partnering across Vercel to build infrastructure that directly impacts how developers ship software.
Responsibilities
- ▹Own and evolve the infrastructure powering Vercel's build and deployment lifecycle, from webhooks to resilient database schemas and scalable APIs
- ▹Design and operate high-performance microservices that process millions of builds daily
- ▹Lead projects end-to-end, from identifying opportunities to defining technical direction and delivering improvements
- ▹Collaborate across teams to align infrastructure with company-wide goals
- ▹Shape the long-term vision of CI/CD by setting standards for scalability, reliability, and developer productivity
- ▹Participate in the on-call rotation, taking responsibility for the reliability of critical systems
- ▹Contribute to the open-source community
- ▹Write clean, efficient, tested, and well-documented code
Requirements
- ▹6+ years of experience designing, building, and operating backend applications and distributed systems at scale
- ▹Strong proficiency in JavaScript/TypeScript
- ▹Strong proficiency with cloud infrastructure (AWS) and infrastructure as code (Terraform)
- ▹A track record of end-to-end ownership, from design and implementation to long-term production operation
- ▹Skilled at cross-team collaboration, influencing priorities and driving alignment
- ▹Comfortable setting direction and defining architectural standards that scale across teams
- ▹Experience mentoring and elevating those around you
Nice to have
- ▹Familiarity with React or Next.js
- ▹Experience with DynamoDB
- ▹Experience developing a CI/CD platform or internal developer platform
- ▹Contributing to or participating in open-source projects
- ▹Optimizing build systems for monorepos or polyrepo setups
- ▹Experience with build caching, artifact storage, or dependency management at scale
