Associate Data Scientist AI – DHL Data & AI

Stack

Responsibilities

• ▹Supporting business stakeholders in introducing AI solutions, explaining functionality, and gathering and implementing user feedback
• ▹Contributing to building modern data and retrieval architectures (e.g. embeddings, RAG, caching, grounding approaches) under the guidance of experienced team members
• ▹Participating in designing scalable and efficiently implementable AI systems
• ▹Supporting the full lifecycle of AI features - from testing through release to monitoring, performance evaluation and assessment of relevant metrics (e.g. response times, stability, cost)
• ▹Contributing to evaluations, red-teaming activities and implementing guardrails to ensure IT security, data protection and compliance
• ▹Developing demos, simple UIs, notebooks and clear enablement materials for users (e.g. READMEs, playbooks, templates)
• ▹Preparing and running ideation workshops and supporting prototyping and structured communication of results
• ▹Working closely with interdisciplinary teams and continuously learning from experienced AI and machine learning experts

Requirements

• ▹Completed degree in mathematics, statistics, physics, computer science or a comparable quantitative/technical field
• ▹Very good programming skills in Python and R, plus solid SQL knowledge
• ▹Experience building backend services, data pipelines and integrating ML/LLM components
• ▹Knowledge of retrieval, RAG and agent orchestration, and a good understanding of modern AI technologies
• ▹Solid foundational knowledge of machine learning, statistical analysis and/or mathematical optimization
• ▹Initial practical experience analyzing complex datasets and developing analytical or AI-based models
• ▹Very good German and English skills, strong communication and presentation abilities

Nice to have

• ▹Additional knowledge in business or management
• ▹Initial experience in strategic or cross-functional projects (e.g. through internships or working student roles)
• ▹Knowledge of other programming languages (e.g. Java)
