Research Assistant – Software Security & Program Analysis

Fraunhofer SIT, part of the National Research Center for Applied Cybersecurity ATHENE, is looking for a Research Assistant to work on applied research in software security and program analysis — developing and evaluating new methods to detect, analyze, verify and fix software vulnerabilities, including static/dynamic analysis, fuzzing and AI-based vulnerability detection.

Responsibilities

  • Work on applied research projects in software security with academic, industry and public-sector partners
  • Develop and scientifically evaluate new methods for detecting, analyzing, verifying and fixing software vulnerabilities
  • Research novel static and dynamic program analysis methods, including fuzzing and AI-based vulnerability detection
  • Perform security analyses of real software systems: code reviews, penetration tests, risk and threat analyses
  • Collaborate on publicly funded research projects and industry partnerships
  • Prepare project reports and scientific publications, and present results at conferences

Requirements

  • Completed university degree (Master's) in Computer Science, IT Security or a related field
  • Strong interest in software security, program analysis and security research
  • Very good programming skills (e.g. Java, C/C++) with a focus on code-level security
  • Experience or interest in static/dynamic program analysis, fuzzing, pentesting, exploit analysis, vulnerability research, or risk/threat modeling
  • Very good written and spoken German and English
