Junior Engineer, AI

AI / ML Engineer • Remote • Vollzeit • 📍 United States

BME Strategies, a public health consulting firm, builds AI-powered internal and client-facing tools; the role focuses on building RAG-based solutions across cloud platforms (GCP, AWS, Azure) and LLM APIs (OpenAI, Anthropic Claude, Gemini), reporting to the AI Committee Lead. Entry-level, recent graduates encouraged to apply.

Responsibilities

  • Build and deploy internal AI-powered applications and automation tools (GCP, AWS, Azure, Anthropic/OpenAI APIs)
  • Design and build external-facing applications (e.g. chatbots) tailored to client needs
  • Develop tools that collect, aggregate, and analyze data to replace manual processes
  • Design and implement retrieval-augmented generation (RAG) pipelines
  • Experiment with and integrate LLMs, AI agents, and emerging frameworks
  • Build lightweight internal apps and dashboards (e.g. AppScript)
  • Partner with the AI Committee Lead to translate needs into technical requirements; present to leadership
  • Research emerging AI models/platforms; implement testing and QA frameworks
  • Monitor performance, cost, and reliability of deployed AI models; maintain documentation

Requirements

  • 1 year of relevant experience and a Bachelor's degree (recent graduates encouraged to apply)
  • Strong Python (or similar) programming skills
  • Proven experience designing and implementing RAG systems
  • Hands-on experience with at least one major cloud platform (GCP, AWS, or Azure)
  • Experience with vector databases, including open-source and cloud-native solutions
  • Experience with LLM APIs (OpenAI, Anthropic Claude, Gemini, etc.)
  • Familiarity with Google AppScript or similar automation tools
  • Experience testing LLM outputs for accuracy and reliability
  • Strong communication skills with non-technical audiences
  • Ability to work independently and in a team in a fast-paced remote consulting environment

Nice to have

  • Experience with frameworks like LangChain, LlamaIndex, or similar
  • Familiarity with MLOps tools and practices (e.g. Docker)
  • Experience writing production-level SQL and working with data warehouses (BigQuery, Snowflake)
  • Experience with data privacy tools such as Google DLP
  • Interest in or experience within public health, healthcare, or government sectors
