Staff Back-end Engineer

Responsibilities

• ▹Shape technical strategy and drive execution: partner with Engineering and Product leadership on the tribe's engineering strategy and roadmap
• ▹Lead end-to-end strategic initiatives, translating product vision into clear technical execution
• ▹Lead architecture and platform evolution: define target architectures, drive migrations and deprecations, ensure performance, availability, and cost efficiency
• ▹Raise engineering excellence and developer experience: identify bottlenecks, reduce friction, champion RFCs, post-mortems, and quality frameworks
• ▹Operate as a multiplier: mentor and influence Senior Engineers, Tech Leads, and Engineering Managers, contribute to hiring
• ▹Drive technical decision-making, including build-vs-buy trade-offs and tooling/vendor evaluations

Requirements

• ▹Strong engineering foundations and system thinking, experience designing and evolving large-scale systems
• ▹Hands-on, strategic mindset connecting high-level strategy with execution
• ▹End-to-end ownership from ambiguous problem definition through delivery and operational stability
• ▹Excellent communication, articulating technical vision and trade-offs to engineering, product, and leadership
• ▹Product-minded engineering, connecting technical decisions to user experience and business impact
• ▹Comfort operating across domains: new features, system design, architecture evolution, migrations, process improvements
• ▹Strong problem-solving and decision-making under uncertainty
• ▹Experience raising the bar across teams: mentoring, hiring, shaping culture via RFCs and post-mortems
• ▹Comfort in evolving, growing environments
