Senior Java Software Engineer, Data Enrichment

Data Engineer • Remote • Vollzeit • 📍 Budapest

Design, develop and maintain backend software systems and infrastructure for the data collection pipelines in SEON's Data Enrichment domain: extracting and ingesting data from various sources and exposing it through APIs, on a Java and Spring stack.

Responsibilities

  • Design and develop robust, scalable backend components using Java and the Spring framework (Spring Boot, Spring Web, etc.)
  • Contribute to the redesign and modernization of a legacy Python-based system
  • Contribute to API design, system architecture, and performance tuning for the team's services
  • Identify and resolve complex technical challenges, and continuously improve code quality, maintainability, and system performance
  • Monitor, troubleshoot, and optimize the performance, availability, and throughput of the team's services, including automating recovery from failure states
  • Work closely with fellow engineers, Product Managers, and infrastructure teams to deliver features and improvements
  • Participate in and, where appropriate, help drive design reviews, sprint planning, and technical discussions
  • Share knowledge and provide clear, constructive feedback through code reviews and pairing, and help onboard fellow engineers
  • Take ownership of the design, implementation, and delivery of features, providing clear effort estimates
  • Deliver high-quality code with a strong focus on testing, reliability, and performance
  • Contribute to improving monitoring and observability for both new and existing systems
  • Support production systems by diagnosing and resolving issues quickly

Requirements

  • 3-5 years of hands-on backend development experience with Java (preferably Java 17+) and the Spring ecosystem (Spring Boot, Spring Web/MVC, etc.)
  • Experience designing RESTful APIs and scalable production backend systems
  • Solid understanding of multithreaded application development
  • Familiarity with distributed systems, microservices, and performance optimization
  • Experience with SQL/NoSQL databases
  • Experience with containerization (e.g. Docker) and CI/CD workflows
  • Experience with networking, proxies, and handling asynchronous or distributed workflows
  • Ability to collaborate effectively in an agile development environment, including supporting fellow engineers through code review
  • Strong analytical, problem-solving skills, and fluent written and spoken English

Nice to have

  • Working knowledge of Python 3.9+ (or willingness to learn) to interact with parts of the legacy system
  • Experience with web crawling, scraping, or data ingestion pipelines
  • Exposure to monitoring, observability tools, and distributed tracing (e.g. Kibana, Grafana, Prometheus)
  • Familiarity with AWS services, particularly Lambda, DynamoDB, Auto Scaling Groups
  • Familiarity with ElasticSearch, Redis, Kubernetes, ArgoCD, and GitHub Actions
