Staff Software Engineer, Platform Infrastructure

Responsibilities

• ▹Own and develop the platform infrastructure strategy, with the sponsorship and responsibility to match
• ▹Be directly involved in deciding what the team works on and how
• ▹Make principled build vs. buy assessments and advocate for the right tools for the job, not the fashionable ones
• ▹Create and maintain comprehensive internal documentation and decision records
• ▹Participate in architectural forums and make principled, open decisions the organization can learn from

Requirements

• ▹Distributed systems depth grounded in practice: consistency/availability tradeoffs, failure cascades, backpressure, graceful degradation, natural NALSD-style system design thinking
• ▹Kubernetes at operator depth: knowledge of what happens inside the scheduler and control loop, gained from operating clusters under real load
• ▹Strong Go proficiency, with experience building and shipping production Go systems
• ▹Genuine multi-cloud experience: considered architectural decisions across AWS, GCP, and/or Azure, not just consuming managed services
• ▹Experience defining requirements and driving technology choices across an engineering organization
• ▹Strong written and verbal communication: writing design docs that change minds and postmortems that make the organization smarter
• ▹Experience working effectively in a globally-distributed team

Nice to have

• ▹Experience with storage primitives (relational vs. object store tradeoffs, informed by real failures)
• ▹Experience working on a SaaS/PaaS product across multiple cloud providers
• ▹Familiarity with Apache Airflow or workflow orchestration systems
