Manufacturing Test Engineer

QA / Test Engineer • Remote • Vollzeit • 📍 Singapore

Own the manufacturing test strategy for complex AI hardware systems within OpenAI's Hardware organization, from early development through volume production.

Stack

Responsibilities

  • Define the manufacturing test strategy for boards, trays, and system-level hardware assemblies across EVT, DVT, PVT, and production ramp
  • Develop test coverage: ICT/structural test, board-level functional test, tray-level functional/integration test, system-level manufacturing test
  • Partner with electrical engineering, system engineering, and diagnostic/software teams to define test requirements, scripts, and failure isolation needs
  • Translate engineering requirements into scalable manufacturing test plans; review and approve pass/fail criteria and release gates
  • Collaborate with system integrators, JDMs, contract manufacturers, and equipment vendors to qualify test stations, fixtures, and automation
  • Review manufacturing test results, logs, yield trends, and failure paretos to identify gaps and drive corrective actions
  • Lead debug of manufacturing test failures, working cross-functionally to determine root cause (design, process, fixture, software)
  • Drive continuous improvement of test processes: coverage expansion, cycle-time reduction, parallelization, station reliability, data quality
  • Ensure manufacturing test readiness for new product introduction, including specifications, validation plans, and correlation studies

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering, Computer Engineering, Manufacturing Engineering, or related technical field, or equivalent practical experience
  • 5+ years of experience in manufacturing test engineering, product test, or NPI test development
  • Experience with ICT/structural, board-level functional, or system-level manufacturing test on servers and/or AI accelerators
  • Experience working with contract manufacturers, JDMs, system integrators, or test equipment vendors
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills, with experience reviewing test and yield data

Nice to have

  • Experience with servers and AI accelerators plus networking, power, or data center hardware systems
  • Experience with manufacturing test automation, Python/Bash scripts, Linux-based diagnostics, data pipelines, CI/release controls
  • Experience supporting high-volume production ramps and factory bring-up in Asia or other global manufacturing environments
  • Knowledge of DFT (design-for-test) principles
  • Experience with failure analysis and root-cause investigations in a manufacturing environment

Soft skills

Communicate clearly with internal teams and external partners, especially when debugging under schedule pressureComfortable operating in a fast-moving, high-ownership environment with significant ambiguityStrong hands-on debugging skills using test data, logs, and lab measurements
