Engineering Manager - Spend Intelligence *EU/UK remote* (m/f/d)

Responsibilities

• ▹Build and lead a new interdisciplinary engineering team: hire, onboard, and grow while staying hands-on
• ▹Shape the product space (mission, problem space, OKRs) together with the Product Manager and Designer
• ▹Drive technical direction for AI-enabled features: when an LLM helps vs. when a deterministic solution is better
• ▹Mentor and grow talent, championing TDD, automated testing, CI, and daily production deployments
• ▹Collaborate across teams (infrastructure, data) to shape clear interfaces and ownership
• ▹Set and track quarterly OKRs together with the product manager

Requirements

• ▹Several years of hands-on backend experience with Java/Kotlin and Spring Boot, plus time in a leadership role
• ▹Roughly 7+ years total and 2+ years in management (depth and judgment matter more than the exact number)
• ▹Care for engineering craft and trade-offs in distributed, testable, maintainable backend systems
• ▹Solid knowledge of REST APIs, relational databases (PostgreSQL), and microservices
• ▹Experience leading teams and mentoring engineers
• ▹Comfort with ambiguity and product-shaped problems, genuine interest in user-facing features

Nice to have

• ▹Hands-on experience with LLMs, agents, RAG, evals, MCPs, or shipping production AI features
• ▹Experience starting a team from scratch or splitting an existing team
• ▹Experience operating in a regulated environment (fintech, healthtech)
