Responsibilities

• ▹Define and own the technical architecture for authentication systems, including the edge authentication redesign
• ▹Lead design and implementation of large-scale, multi-quarter initiatives in the critical path of user interaction
• ▹Mentor and develop senior engineers with technical guidance and design feedback
• ▹Serve as a technical authority for identity protocols (OAuth, OIDC, SAML, LDAP, SCIM)
• ▹Drive cross-team technical alignment on authentication standards and best practices
• ▹Represent Grafana Labs at meetups and conferences

Requirements

• ▹Deep, proven expertise in distributed systems engineering with Go, with a track record of owning large-scale production systems end-to-end
• ▹Demonstrated ability to define technical direction and drive architectural decisions independently
• ▹Extensive experience building and operating low-latency, high-throughput services in multi-tenant environments
• ▹Proven track record of leading complex, multi-quarter initiatives
• ▹Ability to mentor and develop senior engineers
• ▹Strong understanding of SLOs, SLIs, and error budgets
• ▹Excellent written and verbal communication skills in English
• ▹Expert-level understanding of modern identity standards (OAuth 2.x/2.1, OIDC, SAML) and threat models

Nice to have

• ▹Familiarity with Kubernetes
• ▹TypeScript/React experience
• ▹Experience with OpenFGA and KiFederate IDP
• ▹Experience in security-critical environments
• ▹Contributions to open source projects
• ▹Familiarity with observability tooling (Grafana, Prometheus, OpenTelemetry)
