Full Stack Engineer - Billing & Subscriptions

SumUp's Billing and Subscriptions team owns the billing engine, merchant wallet, and subscription experiences that underpin millions of transactions across 37 markets. The team is in an active phase of rebuilding and expanding this foundation to support new sales models, market expansions, and financial integrations. The role is a full-stack position with a backend focus, based office-first in Berlin.

Responsibilities

  • Build and maintain backend services and frontend interfaces across billing, contracts, and merchant wallet products
  • Contribute to the refactoring of key billing components to improve reliability, data security, and alignment with the wider payments platform
  • Support the expansion of billing and wallet capabilities into new markets, ensuring localisation requirements are met
  • Take part in the weekly support rotation, handling incoming customer queries and maintaining platform stability
  • Work closely with senior engineers and product managers to deliver features end-to-end, from implementation to production

Requirements

  • Solid experience building full-stack applications with a backend focus
  • Comfort with Node.js or Go (other backend languages considered)
  • Experience with both relational databases (PostgreSQL, MySQL) and non-relational databases (DynamoDB, MongoDB, Redis)
  • Practical frontend experience with React and Next.js, writing clean, typed code in TypeScript or JavaScript
  • Strong written and spoken English communication, with the ability to give and receive constructive feedback
  • A pragmatic problem-solving approach, able to make sensible trade-offs and write clean, maintainable code
