Design Engineer (Mid-Senior)

Responsibilities

• ▹Develop, maintain and evolve the Aurora component kits (ReactKit, AstroKit, AppKit) with consistent component contracts
• ▹Shape Aurora's visual and interaction language in Figma and in code: anatomy, variants, states, interactions, motion
• ▹Build internal design tooling: Figma plugins, CLI utilities, CI checks, prototyping tools
• ▹Champion best practices and drive adoption of design automation and tooling such as Storybook
• ▹Guide, train and support product teams in adopting Aurora
• ▹Take part in the design process, prototype interactions and turn designs into polished, performant UI components
• ▹Implement animations and micro-interactions
• ▹Build accessible components in line with WCAG AA
• ▹Own the technical implementation and architecture of the design system components

Requirements

• ▹Proven experience building, maintaining and scaling design systems
• ▹Deep understanding of design system principles, component architecture and token strategies
• ▹Strong product design fundamentals: visual hierarchy, typography, spacing, interaction design
• ▹Strong command of JavaScript, modern CSS (including TailwindCSS) and semantic HTML
• ▹Ability to become productive quickly in an unfamiliar stack
• ▹Figma fluency: variables, component architecture, accurate design-to-code translation
• ▹Advanced practical experience with Storybook.js
• ▹Effective collaboration across design, engineering and product

Nice to have

• ▹Figma Plugin API or MCP experience
