Senior Backend Engineer - remote

Responsibilities

• ▹Design, build and maintain core APIs and backend services powering the mobile app and marketplace
• ▹Own the operations and monitoring of production systems
• ▹Be the mobile-aware voice in backend decisions across squads: review designs and API changes to fit the app's needs and flag caveats early
• ▹Integrate third-party systems and APIs
• ▹Own design and implementation of new features and services
• ▹Identify best practices and suggest standards for the whole engineering department
• ▹Produce documentation, flowcharts, diagrams and clear code
• ▹Mentor junior colleagues and onboard new joiners
• ▹Collaborate with engineers, product managers and business stakeholders
• ▹Occasionally propagate backend changes to the frontend

Requirements

• ▹7+ years of experience designing and building scalable backend services in a modern production environment
• ▹Strong proficiency in Go and deep understanding of distributed systems and service-oriented architecture
• ▹Comfortable with JavaScript/TypeScript or confident in picking up Node.js quickly
• ▹Experience on a team that builds and maintains a native mobile app and understanding of how apps consume backend services (API design, versioning, backwards compatibility, release cycles, latency, offline behavior)
• ▹Well-versed in SQL and relational database design
• ▹General knowledge of the frontend world and able to perform basic tasks in frontend apps
• ▹Excellent English skills and based in a European time zone
• ▹A degree in Computer Science or equivalent work experience is desired

• ▹Node.js experience
• ▹Comfortable operating beyond your own squad: reviewing designs and guiding other engineers whose work touches the mobile app
• ▹Interest in growing into a broader technical leadership scope
