Director of Engineering | Europe | Remote
n8n is hiring a Director of Engineering to lead and scale its Core Experience engineering organization, helping a broad, growing set of product teams deliver excellent user experiences, strong technical foundations, and ambitious AI-native product innovation. You will lead multiple leaders and their teams (AI, Nodes, Community, and Adoption & Retention) and shape how the company builds product experiences in a fast-moving, AI-native environment.
Responsibilities
- ▹Lead and develop multiple engineering teams across Core Experience and design the organization for scale
- ▹Foster a high-performance, high-ownership culture connected to product impact
- ▹Set technical direction across the area, helping teams make sound architectural decisions and trade-offs
- ▹Partner with Product, Design, and Engineering leadership to translate strategy into clear priorities and execution
- ▹Support and guide teams building AI-powered product experiences, especially those harnessing LLMs
- ▹Coach leaders and teams toward strong execution, healthy collaboration, and high engineering standards
- ▹Represent the Core Experience area within the broader engineering leadership team
Requirements
- ▹Several years of experience leading multiple engineering teams and directly managing Engineering Managers in a high-growth product organization
- ▹Ability to set direction across a broad product area and turn technical strategy into clear priorities and outcomes
- ▹Strong technical credibility, contributing meaningfully to architecture and technical decision-making
- ▹Coaching and people leadership: developing leaders, giving clear feedback, and growing teams' ownership and judgement
- ▹Product engineering experience leading teams that shipped user-facing experiences in fast-moving SaaS
- ▹AI product exposure, having worked on or led teams building AI-powered product experiences
- ▹Distributed leadership experience in a remote-first environment
- ▹An execution and quality mindset, and experience in growth-stage companies
Nice to have
- ▹Experience with developer tools, automation tools, or adjacent categories
- ▹Interest in open-source and developer/builder communities
- ▹Familiarity with JavaScript / TypeScript / Node.js to quickly build context in the stack
- ▹Strong product sense and deep partnership with Product and Design
