Engineering Manager, Core Platform | Remote | Europe
n8n is hiring an Engineering Manager to build and lead one of two Core Platform teams that power its workflow engine and frontend platform, enabling product engineers to ship confidently across cloud and self-hosted deployments. You lead a technically strong platform team through foundational backend and frontend challenges while creating clarity, momentum, and a high bar for engineering quality.

- ▹Create a high-trust environment and support hiring, onboarding, and team shaping as Platform Engineering grows
- ▹Guide backend platform work such as durable workflow execution, orchestration, queue/task distribution, state handling, and data architecture
- ▹Support frontend platform evolution including canvas architecture, real-time collaboration, rendering performance, and frontend DX
- ▹Help the team make sound decisions on scalability, reliability, performance, modularity, and maintainability across cloud and self-hosted environments
- ▹Partner with Product, Design, and Engineering to align platform priorities with business outcomes
- ▹Mentor engineers, maintain a high engineering-quality bar, and step into technical details or code when needed to unblock the team
Requirements
- ▹At least 2 years of experience as a first-line Engineering Manager, directly leading engineers in a growing product or platform organization
- ▹Strong people leadership: coaching, clear feedback, career support, and handling hard conversations with empathy and accountability
- ▹Platform and systems thinking around correctness, reliability, trade-offs, and long-term maintainability
- ▹A hands-on software engineering background, able to mentor engineers and contribute to architecture discussions
- ▹Technical depth to go into details or code to unblock the team without becoming the critical path
- ▹Cross-functional alignment with Product, Design, and engineering stakeholders
- ▹Composure in fast-moving environments and high-growth SaaS experience
Nice to have
- ▹Familiarity with JavaScript, TypeScript, or Node.js
- ▹Experience with workflow engines, orchestration platforms, developer tools, or infrastructure-adjacent SaaS
- ▹Open-source experience and understanding of public API contracts and backward compatibility
- ▹Frontend platform experience (canvas, collaborative apps, plugin systems, micro-frontends, web workers)
- ▹Backend platform experience (distributed systems, event-driven patterns, queues, retries, idempotency, durable execution)
- ▹Multi-deployment awareness (cloud and self-hosted) and an observability mindset
