
Backend Engineer (Europe/UK timezone)
PostHog is hiring a Europe/UK-based ingestion pipeline engineer to build systems that process billions of events per day. The pipeline currently handles tens of billions of events a month and is aiming to grow another order of magnitude. You will own the ingestion pipeline end to end, building open-source software in the hot path that decides whether customers and engineers have a good experience.
Responsibilities
- ▹Develop infrastructure to capture all incoming data, process it reliably, and provide it to other parts of the platform (product analytics, feature flags, CDP)
- ▹Own the entire ingestion service end to end
- ▹Build open-source software using a mixture of Node.JS and Rust
- ▹Design distributed systems from first principles and pick the best tools for the job
- ▹Work in the hot path, delivering small, confident, frequent steps forward
Requirements
- ▹Experience with highly scalable, event-driven distributed systems
- ▹Have developed multi-tenant software-as-a-service products
- ▹Experience with Node.JS, Go, Rust, or similar languages
- ▹Have worked with Kafka and PostgreSQL, Redis, or similar systems at scale
- ▹Know how to ship changes quickly without breaking things
Nice to have
- ▹Experience with customer data platforms or similar data analytics systems
- ▹Have carried a pager and dealt with incidents
- ▹Comfortable provisioning and maintaining cloud infrastructure
- ▹Experience with benchmarking and profiling tools
- ▹Knowledge of observability systems and practices
