Staff Engineer, Development Lifecycle

Canonical is seeking someone to lead its effort to make Ubuntu fit for applications in automotive, aerospace, industrial robotics and other highly regulated environments, where the complex demands of regulation, compliance and certification must be demonstrably met. In this role you will transform those complex demands into concrete outcomes and into engineering excellence values and practices, leading and challenging engineering culture and working with teams across the organisation. You will collaborate with engineering leadership to define and implement continuous improvement processes, establish qualification requirements, and define methods for measuring quality. You will also build strategic relations with external working groups, committees and partners. The role may be held anywhere in European, Middle Eastern, African or Americas regions or time zones.

Responsibilities

  • Lead the effort to make Ubuntu fit for mission-critical, highly regulated environments
  • Transform complex regulatory, compliance and certification demands into concrete engineering outcomes
  • Lead and challenge engineering culture, working with teams across the organisation
  • Define and implement continuous improvement processes with engineering leadership
  • Establish qualification requirements in support of engineering quality standards
  • Define methods and approaches for measuring quality and use them to shape engineering culture
  • Establish strategic relations with external working groups, committees and partners
  • Join the industrial standards team and work closely with company-wide engineering leadership

Requirements

  • Strong experience in engineering and process management in an agile environment
  • Knowledge or certification of standards addressing software artifact quality such as ISO/IEC 25010 or ASPICE
  • Track record of developing and growing people and teams
  • Experience leading successful compliance and certification efforts, understanding the process and stakeholder management
  • Experience with Linux

Nice to have

  • Background as a software developer
  • Experience establishing product engineering development metrics and KPIs
  • Strong critical thinking and problem-solving skills
