Infra Engineer - Datacenters

Backend Developer • Remote • Full-time • 📍 Remote (US)

Railway makes it simple to ship anything, and this role bridges the universe of atoms and the universe of bits. The team builds ground-up datacenter infrastructure all over the world, designed for performance, resilience and reliability. Railway is a globally distributed startup of around 21 people serving hundreds of thousands of users. This is a fully remote role available anywhere in the world.

Stack

Requirements

  • Built application-level code (Golang, gRPC, Postgres, etc.)
  • Made use of OS primitives (syscalls, cgroups, etc.)
  • Delivered projects 0 to N, leading and scaling them and seeing solutions become tech debt
  • Operated with agency and urgency (remotely a bonus)
  • Foresight to ship for today, design for 10x and engineer for 100x in 18 months
  • Communicated clearly using RFCs and docs to break up and deliver large, nebulous tasks
  • Been on-call and comfortable being so 1-2 weeks per quarter
  • Constructed monitoring, alerts and dashboards to get notified before things break
  • Confidence to say no to 99% of things and the grit to deliver the 1% that matter

Nice to have

  • Designed and procured $1M+ hardware for datacenters
  • Managed and orchestrated supply chains globally
  • Designed rack-level layouts for optimal efficiency (heat/energy)
  • Built automated systems for inventory management up to PXE bootstrapping
