A Go backend engineer role in SumUp's Payments Experience team (Sofia, office-first), building the services that power merchant payouts across 37 markets. A key focus is migrating legacy services off an ageing platform database while continuing to deliver new merchant-facing capabilities.

Responsibilities

  • ▹Build and ship features in the Payments Experience domain, including payout instrument flexibility and SUBA tooling
  • ▹Maintain and support the operational health of the team's backend services
  • ▹Contribute to decommissioning a legacy Ruby payout-settings service and cleaning up dependencies
  • ▹Help remove Platform DB dependencies from the Bank Accounts service
  • ▹Take part in planning and refinement sessions, sharing technical assessments and estimates

Requirements

  • ▹Strong hands-on experience building applications in Go with solid grasp of the standard library
  • ▹Comfortable working within microservices architectures and RESTful APIs
  • ▹Good knowledge of SQL databases, particularly PostgreSQL, writing clean efficient queries
  • ▹Familiarity with Kubernetes containerised deployments and AWS
  • ▹Comfortable navigating multi-language codebases (Go and Ruby)
