Forto is hiring a Senior Backend Engineer for its Shipment team to build the event-driven systems that answer how to move shipments most efficiently. The role spans contract rate management, automated shipment nomination, and data-heavy optimization, using Node.js, TypeScript, and MongoDB. It also includes mentoring team members and driving domain-driven design in a global logistics company.

Responsibilities

  • ▹Design and implement robust backend services for capturing, storing, and validating procurement contract rates and allotment volumes with 100% data integrity
  • ▹Lead the evolution of event-driven microservices to process high-velocity data for real-time contract utilization and space availability
  • ▹Refactor and optimize shipment-to-contract matching systems for low latency and high maintainability
  • ▹Build and iterate on logic that automates the nomination process based on cost, volume commitments, and carrier performance
  • ▹Streamline ingestion and management of complex carrier agreements toward a fully automated, API-driven roadmap
  • ▹Develop tools that provide dynamic visibility into capacity vs. demand
  • ▹Collaborate on integrating ML models for capacity forecasting
  • ▹Lead initiatives across Engineering, Product, and Global Procurement to align the technical roadmap with revenue goals
  • ▹Coach team members in backend engineering best practices and domain-driven design

Requirements

  • ▹Strong grasp of data structures, algorithms, and complexity analysis for large-scale data processing and financial calculations
  • ▹Proven software craftsmanship with a focus on high-quality, maintainable, testable code (TDD understanding a plus)
  • ▹Expertise in designing large-scale, event-driven microservices architectures and robust APIs, with strong understanding of data consistency in distributed systems
  • ▹Deep understanding of synchronous vs. asynchronous communication patterns
  • ▹Hands-on experience developing distributed backend applications focused on low latency and high availability
  • ▹Proficiency in Domain-Driven Design (DDD) applied in microservices, with Node.js, TypeScript, and MongoDB
  • ▹Familiarity with Kubernetes and container orchestration
  • ▹Experience with cloud providers (AWS or GCP preferred)
  • ▹Collaborative, team-oriented mindset with strong product thinking and ownership
  • ▹Fluent English, verbal and written
