Principal AI Engineer - Conversational Banking

A Principal AI Engineer role at N26 architecting next-generation conversational banking and automated backend intelligence powered by AI and Generative AI. The position serves as the technical authority bridging Data Science prototypes into high-traffic production infrastructure, working with LLMs, RAG, and agentic frameworks.
Responsibilities
- ▹Drive architectural strategy and scalability for high-traffic AI services with highly available, low-latency APIs
- ▹Productionize complex AI prototypes, refactoring and deploying Python and Kotlin services including LLM applications and intelligent agents
- ▹Design advanced AI and agentic frameworks using RAG, Model Context Protocol (MCP) servers, and Agent-to-Agent (A2A) orchestration
- ▹Build and optimize application logic around foundational models (AWS Bedrock and Anthropic)
- ▹Establish observability and evaluation standards: logging, tracing, metrics, and real-time evaluation frameworks for LLM outputs
- ▹Provide cross-functional mentorship and identify new AI use cases based on production feasibility
Requirements
- ▹Extensive track record building, deploying, and maintaining ML models or LLM-based applications in high-volume production
- ▹Advanced backend engineering: scalable microservices and API design
- ▹Core proficiency in Python
- ▹Experience with LLM-powered applications and intelligent agents in production
Nice to have
- ▹Experience with Kotlin services
- ▹Familiarity with AWS Bedrock and Anthropic foundational models
- ▹Experience with RAG, MCP servers, and Agent-to-Agent orchestration
