ClickHouse is hiring a Senior Backend Engineer to help build ClickStack, a petabyte-scale, high-performance, open-source observability platform that unifies logs, metrics, traces, and session replays. The role focuses on building reliable, high-throughput data pipelines and APIs in TypeScript and Node.js, with a strong emphasis on developer experience and engagement with the open-source community.

Responsibilities

  • ▹Own and build key backend services and infrastructure powering the observability platform
  • ▹Ensure reliable, high-throughput data pipelines and APIs that developers depend on
  • ▹Collaborate with open-source contributors and customers, and incorporate their feedback into backend architecture and API design
  • ▹Design and implement scalable backend systems that ingest, process, and query petabytes of observability data

Requirements

  • ▹5+ years of software engineering experience with a strong focus on backend development
  • ▹Strong TypeScript and Node.js skills (Express, Fastify, or similar frameworks)
  • ▹Solid understanding of API design, distributed systems, and data modeling
  • ▹Familiarity with containerized environments (Docker, Kubernetes)
  • ▹A passion for open source and the developer community
  • ▹Experience creating developer tooling and designing for developers

Nice to have

  • ▹Experience with Go (occasional contributions to Go-based services)
  • ▹Experience with ClickHouse, PostgreSQL, or other analytical/OLTP databases
  • ▹Strong opinions on observability tools and a vision for improving them
  • ▹Familiarity with OpenTelemetry, logging pipelines, or metrics infrastructure
  • ▹Experience with SDKs or client library design
  • ▹Exposure to message queues and streaming systems (Kafka, NATS) or event-driven architectures
