Senior Software Engineer, Docker Agents (London)

Backend Developer • Senior • Remote • Full-time • 📍 London

Docker's AI engineering team is hiring a Senior Software Engineer to build the future of containerized AI agents, working on Docker Agent, the company's open-source project, and expanding it so developers can build, deploy, and scale intelligent agents using Docker's container technology. It is a greenfield opportunity to shape how developers leverage containers for AI agents at massive scale, collaborating with sister teams working on Ask Gordon and Docker's broader AI platform. The role is only available to candidates located in London or within reasonable commuting distance, is remote-first with a flexible hybrid schedule, and does not include visa sponsorship.

Responsibilities

  • Design and implement systems that leverage Docker containers as the ideal runtime for AI agents, ensuring isolation, scalability, and portability
  • Maintain and evolve the open-source cagent project, adding new capabilities for containerized agent deployment and orchestration
  • Build robust infrastructure for packaging, deploying, and managing agents in containers
  • Enhance agent capabilities with Retrieval-Augmented Generation (RAG) systems for contextual knowledge and domain expertise (secondary focus)
  • Design evaluation frameworks to measure agent performance, reliability, and containerized deployment effectiveness
  • Iterate quickly on new agent capabilities and deployment patterns, moving from concept to production efficiently
  • Engage with the cagent open-source community, review contributions, and help grow the ecosystem
  • Collaborate with product managers, designers, and engineers across Docker's AI teams
  • Participate in an on-call rotation as needed, including evenings, weekends, and holidays

Requirements

  • Strong proficiency in Go is highly desired (or the ability and willingness to ramp up, as Go is Docker's primary backend language)
  • Practical experience with large language models (LLMs) and agent development
  • Proven ability to design scalable, distributed systems
  • Deep understanding of Docker, containerization best practices, and container orchestration
  • Experience building Retrieval-Augmented Generation systems (secondary focus)
  • Demonstrated ability to prototype quickly and iterate based on feedback
  • Currently located in London or within reasonable commuting distance

Nice to have

  • Experience with CrewAI, AGNO, ADK, LangChain/LangGraph or similar AI orchestration frameworks
  • Experience with Python for AI prototyping and tooling
  • Experience with Kubernetes or container orchestration platforms
  • Open source contributions and community engagement
  • Experience with agent evaluation, reliability, and observability techniques

About the company

Docker is one of the most loved brands in developer tooling, trusted by more than 20 million monthly users with over 20 billion container image pulls. Developers rely on Docker Desktop, Docker Hub, and Docker Scout to build, share, and run applications. Docker is a globally distributed, remote-first team, and as AI agents redefine software development, it provides the sandboxed environments, verified images, and secure infrastructure that make autonomous workflows trustworthy by default.
