Mozilla is looking for a Staff Operations Engineer to lead the design, reliability and evolution of its hybrid-cloud and workplace infrastructure. This senior role spans multiple teams, drives complex initiatives, sets technical direction and combines hands-on execution with technical leadership and mentorship. The position is remote in Germany with a hiring range of EUR 81,000 to 108,000.

Responsibilities

  • ▹Own and evolve the architecture within a defined infrastructure domain and contribute to 6-18 month technical strategy
  • ▹Design and implement scalable, reliable systems spanning multiple teams or environments, driving migrations and re-architectures
  • ▹Collaborate across IT, SRE, Security and service-owner teams to unify solutions across office, data center and cloud infrastructures
  • ▹Improve system reliability through monitoring, alerting, SLI/SLO definition, capacity planning and root cause analysis of complex incidents
  • ▹Design and support core infrastructure components such as compute, DNS, networking and identity
  • ▹Build and improve automation using scripting and Infrastructure as Code, reducing operational toil
  • ▹Mentor engineers, guide system design and troubleshooting, and maintain clear documentation, diagrams and runbooks

Requirements

  • ▹6+ years of experience in systems engineering or infrastructure roles
  • ▹Strong experience designing and operating production infrastructure
  • ▹Solid expertise with VMware, Cisco UCS, application/network load balancers and Linux/Unix operating systems
  • ▹Networking fundamentals: DNS, TCP/IP, routing, firewalls
  • ▹Experience with data center environments
  • ▹Demonstrated ability to lead complex technical work across teams

Nice to have

  • ▹Infrastructure as Code experience (Puppet, Ansible, etc.)
  • ▹Python
  • ▹Familiarity with observability tooling and reliability practices
  • ▹Experience with containerization and modern platform tooling
  • ▹Exposure to security best practices in infrastructure design
  • ▹GitHub Enterprise administration: user access management, org/repo management, SSO/SCIM integration, policy enforcement
